ReusableSF’s Mission
Reduce single-use foodware through community engagement and legislative advocacy and create a reuse economy that safeguards the health and environment of all San Franciscans.
People come from all over to visit San Francisco because it’s one of the world’s greatest cities.
The architecture, the food, the entrepreneurial spirit, the rugged natural beauty all around.
But we have a problem with single-use plastic and other throw-away stuff.
Even though the city has shown real leadership to address plastic pollution, most of the trash (70%) on our city streets comes from single-use food and beverage packaging. And 80% of ocean plastic pollution comes from land-based sources.
ReusableSF is a coalition working to make single-use a thing of the past and make reusable the new normal.
Reuse benefits
-
Environment
Reducing disposables also reduces litter, plastic pollution, and carbon emissions from food service.
The SF Foodware Ordinance supports the Climate Action Plan goals to reduce San Francisco’s total waste generation by 15% and to cut waste sent to landfill by 50% by the year 2030.
-
Economy
Businesses save money by ditching single-use foodware. Reusables cost less than disposables.
The city and taxpayers save money. Less waste means less solid waste and cleanup costs.
-
Opportunity
New sustainable job and business opportunities are created in the community.
Eat out and on-the-go guilt-free with less waste, less pollution, and more fun!
